Sometimes known as “day rehab,” a Soft Admission Program (SAP) lets a client benefit from the intensive support of a residential treatment program while still spending evenings at home. It can be thought of as a mid-point between full inpatient hospitalization and outpatient care.
SAP allows clients access to therapy, counseling, and aftercare support for a minimum of six hours per day, six days per week. Services are tailored to meet each client’s unique treatment goals, but may include family therapy, group therapy, and individual therapy with any necessary medication management services. For those in search of a creative outlet to help process their feelings about the recovery journey, art or music therapy may also be included.
SAP is most appropriate for clients who can’t commit to a traditional inpatient addiction treatment program due to work, school, or family concerns. However, since SAP is less structured and more flexible, it’s crucial that clients have a strong network of supportive friends and family who are actively involved in their recovery process.
